Blowtorches – Sweden

SWEDISH BLOWTORCHES

Many Swedish companies manufactured blowtorches. There are separate pages in the Terry Marsh Lantern Gallery for Primus and Sievert. Other brands including Radius are on this page.

OPTIMUS

Optimus was founded in 1899 and became a well known manufacturer of quality blowtorches and stoves. Often shown as Aktiebolaget Optimus or A-B Optimus basically meaning that Optimus was a public limited company.

Optimus 363 (Kerosene 1.5 pt – abt 1930s to early 1950s)
Notes: An uncommon but solidly built blowtorch with a very inclined burner and a standard type valve wheel. The metal collar over the burner can be rotated higher or lower to adjust the flame. An interesting safety filler cap with wings is a nice feature of this blowtorch which is in Ron Zemancik’s collection.

PRIMUS

Please see the separate page for Primus.

RADIUS

Another maker of fine blowtorches. Until around 1938 the torches were stamped ‘RADIUS’ and after this they read ‘RADIUS LTD’.

Radius 52 (Kerosene 1 pt – abt 1930s to 1950s)
Notes: The model 52 was popular and available over many years. Even an alcohol version was available with some minor changes to the orifice. However, the kerosene version was far more common. This unit has ‘RADIUS LTD’ stamped and so is after 1938.

SIEVERT

Please see the separate page for Max Sievert and Sievert.
